Preparing Your House to List on the Spring Market

Wooden letter spell out HOME next to keys.

For the past few months, we’ve been working alongside our clients who are planning to sell their houses this Spring. But that doesn’t mean it’s too late for you!

If you’re planning to sell your home in the Spring Market, now is the time to start preparing. The Spring Market is a busy time for Real Estate, and you want to make sure your home stands out. Here are some tips to help you get your house ready to list.

Step 1: Call an Agent

The first step is to call a Real Estate Agent to tour your home. A highly qualified professional Agent will give you an honest assessment of what needs to be done to get your house ready to sell, as well as advice on what would be “nice to do” and what’s not really necessary. If they’re well-established in the market, they will also have plenty of local contacts to help you get larger house projects completed on-time.

Most importantly, your Agent will provide a plan of action to put your mind at ease. When you work with an Agent, you’re not alone! They will be there to guide you through the process and make sure you’re getting the most value out of the sale.

Step 2: Declutter and Clean

Roll up your sleeves, enlist some help, and scrub your house until it shines. This may seem like an obvious step, but it can make a HUGE difference. You want your home to feel welcoming, so potential buyers can see themselves living in that space and making it their own.

Buyers want to see a clean, well-maintained home. They want to be able to imagine themselves living in the space. That’s why you need to ruthlessly declutter your house. Minimize what’s in your house so it showcases the views and architecture you have.

That means removing all personal photos and keepsakes and cleaning everything – including your carpets, light fixtures, and switchplate covers. Clear the cobwebs from your front porch and make sure your landscaping is well-trimmed. From the inside out, your house should feel warm and inviting.

Buyers also want to see that your home has plenty of storage space, so take the time to tidy your cabinets and organize your closets so the spaces are shown in their best light.

Step 3: Update and Refresh

Once you’ve decluttered and cleaned, it’s time to update and refresh certain parts of your home.

For example, professionally painting the walls a neutral color can make a big difference. Lighter, brighter colors are the best choice. If you have wallpaper that’s peeling or outdated, remove it and paint the walls instead. If you have a dark, heavy house, consider painting at the very least the ceiling a lighter color to make the space feel more open and bright. This blog details the best color choices for houses.

You can also consider completing a handful of renovations that are shown to give the best return on investment, such as lighting, carpeting, and the garage door.

Step 4: Showcase Your Assets

Finally, make sure you’re showcasing your home’s best assets. If you have a great view, make sure it’s visible. If you have a beautiful fireplace or a large kitchen island, make sure they’re the focal point of the room. Buyers want to be able to see themselves living in your home, so make sure you’re highlighting the features that will appeal to them.

While preparing your home for the Spring Market takes some effort, it’s worth it. By following these steps, you can make sure your home stands out from the competition and fetches the best possible price. With a little bit of work, you can make your home irresistible to buyers!  Effort ALWAYS pays off and oftentimes in amounts that are shocking to Sellers.
